Probably the same steps you’d need to if you use Plex and are CGNATED (thanks CGNAT for teaching me basic networking).

You know all the certs and security and port stuff you need to do? Plex does that. You just download the app, point it at your folders with media, and you’re all set both at your home and beyond it.
I am just gonna read your comment until here, Plex does shit if you are CGNATED, and as it is 2025 I suppose most users are, I still needed to expose through IPv6 with a reverse proxy, using a VPS or a VPN to access my Plex Server, so yeah, Plex hasn’t helped me at all since many years ago with the noob friendly approach they have.
EDIT: Oh and their relay feature is garbage, even for Plex Pass users, and I happen to be a lifetime one.
Comparing your experience with macOS would be a bit unfair, how about with Windows?
For example I can tell the sleep feature works better in macOS than Win10… Battery backup as well…
Once several years ago, I needed to use 3rd party tools and I wasn’t too confident to mess up with the MacBook, which is considerably more locked than previous laptops I have ever used, that is why I wanted to stay in the Boot Camp field.
I don’t know how to install Linux in my MacBook Pro 2014 without fucking up macOS, I do have Win10 installed already with Bootcamp, so this LTSC version already looks more interesting to me than any of the Linux flavors.
Wait, is TWD available on the anime filler website?
You don’t have hobbies you’d like to be healthy or sane to keep enjoying?
For one I would drop social media time… That’s where the toxicity gathers.
I expose some stuff through IPv6 only with my Synology NAS (I am CGNATED) and I have always wondered if I still need to use fail2ban in that environment…
My Synology has an auto block feature that from my understanding is essentially fail2ban, what I don’t know is if such a feature works for all my exposed services but Synology’s.
Any paid open source software you’d consider to pay?
Try Summit for Lemmy, thank me later.
It is good to see you back!
I was a bit sad when I saw you released the new Boost version just a few days before the Reddit APIcalypse just because why not, I am glad you can keep your beloved project now with Lemmy!
Reddit getting rid of top notch quality apps such as Boost was definitely quite a dumb move.
I am bilingual too, but I don’t understand the other languages that show in my feed but Spanish and English.
I don’t have that issue with Lemmy, everything here is in English, and there used to be some Spanish communities (the instance might have died because it hasn’t showed up in my feed for so long).
No time to self host their own social media I guess.
Yeah, and I am the one suffering blocking everyone lol.
I don’t think it is that much for me, I kinda like “infinite content” what I don’t like is being bombarded with content that is not in English or Spanish… Which I clearly specified within the Mastodon settings to be my preference… So I spend most of the time navigating through said hashtags feeds blocking users speaking in other languages 😑
It seems that the hashtags feed doesn’t care about language preferences… Or the users posting don’t follow the language rules or whatever.
Yeah, at this point they just think we are stupid as, as if they were taking a huge toll with the bandwidth by capping the remote playback option… They are not hosting the files ffs.
Yeah, it is not Sync, but it is just as good, and we can work with the dev to make it even better than what Sync was!
Yeah I get it, it definitely is not a competition, but if it is for the sake of sharing the love then yeah I agree that this client requires a higher user base 😁
Summit holds practically the same quality as Sync for Reddit had… If not more at this point.
And yeah, the dev is great and very communicative, he must love his own project to be so active regarding it, and it makes sense I have tried the app since its conception and it has greatly improved.
I don’t want to bash other Lemmy clients… But I have tried nearly all of them and Summit always speaks “smoother” for me.
Pocket Cast, because it is the only option to have my queue synced along all my Android, iOS and even Alexa devices (I don’t pay the subscription so I am missing out on the desktop and website ones), if there is an alternative for it, please enlighten me.
