Linux basically cannot damage hardware in any way that Windows couldn’t. The hardware/firmware decides what interfaces it offers and what you can configure. If any hardware puts these roadblocks only in the driver or some UI, and (for whatever reason) only the Windows version, I guess you could.

Would be a really strange thing to do tho, since most just implement a generic driver that works everywhere and then at most an interface on top of that.

Let me tell you a couple things about PhDs in CS:

• Research is highly competitive, avoid if don’t have ambition or can’t handle constant pressure
• Some (most) jobs do not require PhDs, but most will care about practical experience and age
• Research is a lot of work. If you want a peer group, you work 40h a week, then peer review stuff for your buddies. You will need buddies, because you need peer reviews too of course
• (As you already mentioned) at least until you have your PhD, pay is between bad and insulting

If you do have the ambition to land a top-tier position in the end, maybe even stay and compete in research, go for it. If you love doing research, go for it. If you just want the title, just don’t. Go work somewhere. Best case they offer a PhD programme at the company or you can earn certificates and whatnot

How come you instantly believe this narrative?

Have you considered that you can be attracted to more than one thing, and that this may evolve over time? You don’t expect people to be like ‘I’m gay now’ at age 12 and then automatically have zero interest in anything else, do you?

Bruh, you need a new name. “EU OS” is both terribly bland and super hard to pronounce. I guess they got screwed by EndeavourOS and e/OS already occupying EOS already, but you can do better. Let me try:

EurOS (self-explanatory) Ios (as a play on Io, the mythological ancestor of Europa and, in my humble opinion, a brilliant mocking of iOS) BoIS (Boring Independence System… Why yes, I do like Rust and Arch, how did you know?) PlutOS (Lowest layer, ruler of the underworld, get it? Get it? Okay, it mainly sounds cool.)

… That’s because it comes with vanilla android, unless you buy the e/OS version or flash it yourself

Probably don’t want to play graphics heavy games on it. For everything else it’s pretty much like any other phone. Although of course it’s not quite as premium as flagship phones. Hardware wise, a Pixel 8 leaves it in the dust. But you can’t swap your battery or really anything on that one.
