I’ve got this move coming up - my plan is to dual boot and slowly wean over.

Game crashes in Linux, try for a fix and if I get frustrated, boot into windows and enjoy the game.

Might be a rocky year, but the dual boot will likely take the stress off!

I’ve seen a lot of fedora-based distros pushed for gaming (mint is Debian based), apparently these can work better. Still looking into it, but no definitive answers there yet!

It’s a sad world. I keep meaning to run a code club for my students (thinking we just work through lazy devs’ shmup tutorial together), but I keep getting sidetracked by trying to deal with department politics -_-

Antinatalism is a mistake - I think I agree there, mostly because it’s a path to a narrow gene pool and increases the probability of extinction.

Highest aspiration being parenthood - hard pass there, the highest aspiration in life is the seeking and sharing of knowledge.

The purpose of an education is to learn how to think, not how to work.

A lot of universities are being treated as training centers for the world of work - and this is not ok.

So, I’ve seen a lot of people who were extremely sharp as PhD students become blunted as soon as 9–5 starts.

A lot of decline among adults can likely be traced back to increased cognitive load during working hours, which chips away at intelligence over time as folks burn out.

With kids it’s harder to place, maybe it’s walking the tightrope that is modern social interactions?

It’s going to sound really silly but here goes:

1. Ensure their background is the same as it was (seriously, they often use it as an extra way to find things).

2. Where possible, use windows icons for desktop shortcuts and mask link names to match vocab they’re familiar with.

3. Have rustdesk set up with a link saying “Let <your name> help me”.

4. Make sure they have their password written down somewhere.

5. Make sure you have their password written down somewhere.

6. Where possible have background updating, where not possible have a .sh file to do it for them.

7. Add desktop links for things like downloads, documents and pictures.

These are tips for any distro when moving less tech savvy relatives over. For those that like to game, ensure your fs on their gaming drive is a Linux one as it stops weird behaviour. Also, you know, install the games for them!

I mean, it sounds like a lawsuit to me.

1. A takedown request was issued on false grounds.

2. This takedown was then actioned without any due process.

3. The issue has caused tangible, and measurable, loss (calculable from prior sales records).

Honestly, there needs to be a fixed penalty fine for bad takedowns…
