If someone confronts you in a hateful way about your gender like this, maybe you suddenly become afraid for your safety (valid!) and spray them in the face with pepper spray.

When people ask what happens say you became afraid the stranger was trying to hurt you and put your body under threat because they were.

No judgement to anyone, but I think pepper spray is a better option here because bigots want you to be a threat which makes resisting hard because resistance can be so easily propagandized as a violent threat.

If you spray someone in the face with pepper spray, well… it is much harder to make the argument you are a violent threat vs. that person was being a fucking creep and making you feel uncomfortable because you were alone with a stranger in a bathroom being accosted about details of your gender and body that have NOTHING to do with them.

It is 2025, I am not going to judge trans people or other vulnerable groups for taking their safety into their own hands, just be mindful of how you do it and consider how you can subvert the toxic attempt to narrativize your actions as evil.

Look at this point if I see someone giving a trans/queer coded person shit/hurting them/threatening to hurt them I am going to assume my job is to get as many nearby people to notice and shut that shit down by sheer force of normal people crowding out the couple violent fascist assholes because they can’t do anything to a quickly growing crowd of angry normal people…

…so I am really not interested in judging queer people too hard on any reaction they have right now as a cisgender hetero white dude.

I am so mad, I think I could honestly convince most normal people to intervene with their bodies in a situation like that if there were enough people around, anti-trans beliefs aren’t that popular and most normal people are fucking tired of it and just want politicians to make their lives materially better and the more they hear about rightwing gender bullshit violence thinly veiled as pseudo-science the more creeped out they get about the weird obsessions of the rightwing that motivates these pathetic vessels of hate.

The problem of course, and what we are talking about, is when nobody but a queer coded person and a fascist are around, and I have no grounds to pass any judgement in how queer people choose to respond in that space.

Not defending the idea of vigilante justice for bathroom perverts – but even if so, why would it be important that they know why they were killed?

We should all misgender every MAGAt male who enters the men’s bathroom. And tell them that pussies are not allowed in there.

Security asked for ID so at least that was clickbait. Apparently this happened WHILE they were inside the stall btw.

Security literally started banging on the door full force demanding they open it while people are doing their business.

What if the person using the restroom was a male and female patrons didn’t want males in their restroom?

Would it have then been acceptable for the officer to try and remove them?

        This is a hypothetical question.

I shouldn’t have to preface it with that, but here we are.

None of this ever was an issue in the past until Republicans started pushing bullshit natives that noone cared about before to keep people distracted with a shiny turd whole they rob the state blind

You know, some people will say none of this was an issue until people started wanting to use bathrooms different from their sex.

      Step 1: Raise concern

Step 2: Security calmly lets the person know that some of the other patrons are feeling uncomfortable because they think the person is male/female.

Step 3: Person will say they’re female or identify as one.

Step 4: Security says OK (maybe apologize for the inconvenience).

Step 5: Let other patrons know. Anyone still uncomfortable can wait until the person leaves or use a different toilet.

That’s really it. There’s no reason for an officer to ask for proof or ask them to get out if all they’re doing is using the bathroom.

I think some of the snarky replies you are getting is a result of users assuming you’re asking a hypothetical just to ruffle feathers when the answer to your question is this simple.

        Thanks for the rational response.

Step 3: Person will say they’re female or identify as one.

Is identifying as the opposite sex really something that is commonplace now? Usually these discussions center around identifying as a ‘woman,’ which is why I was specifically referring to sex in my question.

What if patrons who would be upset over having a male in the female restroom don’t care what the male identifies as?

While bathroom bills are explicitly aimed at trans folk, generally it’s non-gender conforming cis folk being the ones who actually get challenged. Which isn’t a bug, but a feature of control to enforce everyone, regardless of sex in to two clean arbitrary groups. It’s almost always some poor butch lesbian being accosted by the gender police and told to pee safely they need some makeup.

There is more to being a man than a tie, and more to being a woman than a dress. Humand are infinitely more complex than those old strict boundaries. This sort of attack is just a impotent attempt to force back the 1920’e statud quo.

“For gender nonconforming, lesbians, women in general, being harassed in public restrooms is a tale as old as time. I do think the surge in national anti-trans rhetoric is contributing to an increased policing of women’s bodies and their expression of gender,” Selvaggio said.

And yet, terfs will blame trans folks for this trend, instead of the anti-trans culture they themselves contribute to.

Yup, the terfs in line couldn’t imagine a woman exists who didn’t look like their version of a woman to them since she didn’t follow every trend of what “being a woman” should look like based on social media, most likely.

Baker was born a woman and identifies as a woman. But, she said she was escorted out of the restroom and then comments were directed at her from other women waiting in line.

“Someone said, ‘Get him out of here,’ referring to me. ‘He’s a creep,’ also referring to me,” Baker said.
