It’s not “rude” it just feels weird because most of the time, it’s pointless, since most people people won’t be reading it. It’s basically a public PM to the OP (because they get a notification), so only one person is reading it, unless you tag a bunch of people from the thread.
But if its a top search result on google, then comment away, others will look up the same thing and end up on the same thread and then you can discuss. (Usually, only reddit threads end up on google tho, I never seen a Lemmy post on google)
