When Carter was named candidate it almost fractured the Dem party…

Because Jimmy F’n Carter was too conservative and Dem voters felt it was a beginning of a long pivot away from the left

Like, you know how Trump’s talking about kicking people off welfare so they’d get jobs? That was a big part of Carter’s stump speeches too.

People really don’t understand how much we’ve fucking lost as a country.

This happened in his first presidency. Time and endless propaganda from the right wing media successfully rehabilitated his image in time to win another election. They’ll do the same with his policies.

Time and endless propaganda rehabilitated war criminals to the point that Harris trotted out one of them in support of her as somehow a positive thing.

People still ooh and ahh over the photo of a war criminal handing Michelle Obama a piece of candy.

I think the ballots were stuffed. Stuffed maybe in the sense of stuffed by sycophants with idiotic blind fealty.

I seem to recall that the issue with Trump is that something like 20% of his base absolutely won’t vote for anybody else. They’ll support him no matter what he says or does. It’s truly a cult mindset.

At this point the 37% he has reflects less on his incompetence and idiocy and more on their intelligence and racism.

But yeah, that’s insanely high for how bad and racist he is.

Wonder what Hitler or Stalin polled at during different points.

Frankly I think it’s also an intense reflection on the effectiveness of propaganda. I talk to my grandpa, a man I do not consider to be, in terms of his individual views, a racist hateful man, and the facts of the world he’s working with are just 100% divorced from the reality I live in. They bare almost no substantive similarity.

It requires a painful amount of cognitive dissonance to talk to him, but at least the conversations usually aren’t shitty (aside from the backdrop of him voting for a man who is amassing political power by promising to persecute people like me and the folks I love 🙃)

Yeah, fair. But also, you can’t convince me that every single MAGA just don’t know what’s going on. We are all telling them, showing them, showing up with receipts and history books, proving their premises wrong at every turn, proving Trump a liar at every turn, proving all the horrible things true at every turn. And they always just go “whatever, I voted for this!”

At some point it isn’t just propaganda and ignorance, but willfully and knowingly.

They have permission to be racist, hateful, assholes and bullies and abusers and they love it. And they love that he is doing it all for them and they can just sit back and watch.
