I’m fine with public access not having gay themed children’s stuff. That ad where Hilary Duff says it’s not cool to say the bundle of sticks slur. That stuff should be safe and that’s all that’s important for kids. Tell kids it’s ok to play with Barbie’s and pink. Don’t embellish this toddlers and tiaras degeneracy where kids call themselves bonequeefa. When puberty comes our world now has resources everywhere. It’s not like me thirsting over the logo channel cause my dad didn’t know it was part of the cable package. It’s only a few years. Young people know more and more that they aren’t alone so we’ve done good. Let the bigots stay in darkness.

What’s unsafe about kids learning about trans or gay people? Do those people not exist in the world until a child turns 18 or something?

More importantly, why is it OK that children only.get exposed to Christian stuff even though churches are dangerous places for kids? Why do we let them decide for everyone else? Who gave them that authority?

I was at a confirmation to a boy a couple of days ago, where the uncle is gay. The uncle hadde a speech that started with "When [name] was in kindergarten, he said ‘I want a boyfriend, like my uncle Tom has, because he’s so happy’. Damn, that was funny. Especially since the boy is as straight today. There’s NOTHING wrong with children being exposed to different people. Fuck the GOP and their hateful minds. Let people be people, you closeted bigots!

I’ve been predicting since Trump was re-elected that within four years, LGBT content will be purged from streaming services. Netflix and Disney will probably end up doing it before they’re forced to.

So… watching fox news can make my trans and gay friends hetero and alter their gender? I’m doubtful.

When they say “turn”, they mean “learn”.

They want their children to live a life of denial and never learn that they are allowed to feel the way they do.

I’m going to need a list of every person that was turned LGBT+, by a song, tv show, video game, etc. Conservatives are such hypocrites and liars. You CAN’T turn someone gay. If you could, the whole fucking planet would be gay.

I want to get grumpy here and say that watching their edutainment documentary on ____ (fill in the blank queer subject because I don’t remember the focus), that introduced me to Christine Jorgensen and had clips of her performing made my LIFE! I think they were from the Library of Congress or something, and who the hell knows if they even exist anymore. She did a cover of Welcome to my World that took the tune from a old crooner song to this upbeat fun and flirty jam and it was absolutely mesmerizing. That was just a ten second clip too, but it was so wonderful. I had another grumpy pants moment tonight when I talked about how happy people are post-transitioning and how frustrating it is to me that people can see transjoy and think “I want to smash that.” I mean I have met so many transfolx who have this deep seated awful pain that pretty much saps the life from them until they get the right support they need. It’s like night and day. I just don’t get it. We don’t recruit, even though we used to chant it to scare the straights. Really, we just make people more aware of the possibilities of who they could be if they want to be said way. Youth explores, I’ve known a LUG or three in my lifetime. I think exposure to a wide range of folks in media helps people. I know I was happy the first time I saw someone who looked like me on a TV, and it damn near took 25 years or so to do it. So yeah, it’s important. I really hate this happened, but hopefully they’ve just archived them for later. You can’t fuck with the bag in this world.

If media can turn someone gay than rationally the inverse should be true as well so why are there still gay people when the media is 99% non gay stuff?

Trans identies must be accept as valid period the end but I find drag often veers into “woman face” territory and it’s done for entertainment not as an expression of an authentic self, not that drag is inherently wearing woman face but a lot of performers absolutely take it there. I don’t want my children, especially my daughter watching content that exaggerates my female features for entertainment and dehumanizes women into nothing more than a caricature

You couldn’t be more wrong. Drag is often about getting in touch with one’s feminine side, and many trans and nonbinary folks use drag as a vehicle to explore their identities. It’s very much an expression of an authentic self as much as it is entertainment.

Also, drag kings are very much a thing, exploring masculinity from a feminine starting point.

Am I wrong? What’s the point of drag other than to dress up as a caricature of a woman for entertainment? Sorry I don’t like my identity to be used for mocking and/or entertainment. Of a person has a female identity because that’s the truest form of themselves I fully support that but if you’re dressing up as a mocking version of something for entertainment it’s not at all the same thing and it’s not ok. There’s a reason you didn’t address what j said and just hopped onto essentially calling me a TERF, I may be an RF but I am not TE

Oh, the joys of being old! I remember the GWB years, when PBS was pressured into a Both Viewpoints era and suddenly they had “experts” extolling the virtues of Trickle Down Capitalism.

If you stand for something, like PBS has, it’s always a terrible idea to cater to the opposite. Liberal law firms that settled with the Trump administration have found that out, Target is finding it out, and PBS might do, as well.

Can I complain too? Because the GOP is turning kids to suicide because they are having a miserable life for not being allowed who they are. You really have the mental capacity of a can of mountain dew if you think “gay” is an option, a choice, something which can change. The only thing that can change are the limited dumb fucks who believe in an imaginary guy in the clouds with super powers (which he only uses for crual things somehow) by stopping abusing others and forcing children into their expectations. It’s literally child abuse what they are doing. And they are making the rules, instead of being trialed.

As the Trump administration intensifies its attacks, PBS has bent the knee in another way to dampen potential blowback by removing a scene in an Art Spiegelman documentary in which the graphic novelist Spiegelman discusses an anti-Trump cartoon. PBS also pulled a gaming documentary with trans themes, only to relist it after The Atlantic asked about its deletion.

Sounds like it’s not just the local station engaging in shenanigans.
